Lanaya Jones Gets the Title for December
We are so happy to have Lanaya as our newest Clinician of the Month! She deserves this title this holiday season, and we hope this makes her month a little bit brighter. She continuously has a positive influence on her assignments, and has a real passion for nursing that we get excited to promote to our clients!
Read more below about how she got into the industry and the amazing career she has in front of her.
I knew I wanted to be a nurse early on. At ten years old, I was set on the idea. My step father had quadruple bypass surgery, and the nurses were absolutely amazing! They were the people I looked to in a tough time, and I couldn’t have been more thankful. They taught me how to care for him after discharge. I did things that I had never done before like cleaning the staples, keeping them dry, and changing his dressings every day. These nurses gave me the tools I needed to fall in love with the idea of being in their profession.
Officially, I started my nursing career in 2009 as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in long-term care. This experience opened up a very special place in my heart for the elderly. I knew I didn’t want to stop there, so I enrolled at East Carolina University in 2010, and graduated with my BSN degree in 2013. I went into critical care after that and started working in a cardiac ICU/step-down unit for a year.
Being that I am from North Carolina, I’ve always heard wonderful things about Johns Hopkins Hospital. Seeing how far I had come in my career in such a short amount of time, I decided my next step would be to work for one of the best hospitals in the world. I dreamed big and made it happen. I lived my dream for four years, and then found a new one!
My next step became agency. I have been working at Chesapeake Medical Staffing for about a year now. There have already been so many wonderful opportunities available to me with this organization. In other positions, I found it difficult to juggle school and work, but Chesapeake continues to make it easy. I’ve met some wonderful people that I believe truly have my best interest at heart. I started out with Donna as my PRN Recruiter, and then she moved to contracts where she helped me gain a great contract with the governor’s office. This has been my greatest accomplishment with Chesapeake by far, and I couldn’t have done it without her. It feels good to have a great person in my corner that wants to see me do great in life!
There is so much to be excited for in the future. In only six months, I will get my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a specialty as a family nurse practitioner (FNP). I would not be able to get this degree without the flexibility of my schedule, so I’m definitely appreciative in the new year.
Thank you to everyone at Chesapeake Medical Staffing! You guys are so awesome. I feel so honored to be nominated and that my hard work does not go unnoticed.
Wow, congratulations on that degree! We can’t wait to celebrate all your successes now, and in the future!
